Introduction
Fashion Designers’ and Craft makers’
Young Designer Awards are the brain child of knitwear designer Joanna
Marcella.
This
not-for profit project was set up to reward exceptionally talented
young people between the ages of 9-20 years.
Each
young designer is required to create an outfit that will showcase
their individual talents. This award enables each designer to express
his or her own creativity and imagination. The idea behind the awards
is to raise awareness and the profile of cutting edge.
Since
2002 the awards have grown from strength to strength each year and
now engage young fashion designers from all cultural backgrounds.
Fashion
Designers’ and Craft makers’ Young Designer Awards are
the only national awards in the UK that has given young fashion
designers, who are still studying for their fashion degrees, an
opportunity to showcase in New York Fashion Week and Caribbean Fashion
Week, to an audience of international Buyers, Fashion Editors, Press
and Celebrities, and work with a team of prominent fashion stylists,
hair stylists, make-up artists backstage and the same international
models that walk the runway for the noted fashion houses such as
Baby Phat, Calvin Klein, Donna Karen, Marc Jacobs, Luella Bartley
and Tommy Hilfiger.
Our
designers have been catapulted straight from the Young Designer
Awards right on to the international fashion stage. This year another
talented designer will join them.
Our
designers have been given a unique opportunity; New York Fashion
Week, Caribbean Fashion Week, as well as, London Fashion Week are
very difficult events to be involved in, there is a strict criteria
to participate, a long waiting list and fees of thousands of pounds
to be paid. Our winners have by-passed all of this by proving they
have what it takes to showcase with the crème of world fashion
designers.
